Help Me Become a Better Computer Consultant
Saturday, March 6th, 2010Ads are gone again
Saturday, March 6th, 2010Darn! I just couldn’t live with that theme that has the google ads in the layout. It gives me problems placing images where I want them and I really don’t care too much for the placement of the google ads either.
One of these days I’ll take the time to figure out how to manually add my adsense info and design a custom template. In the meantime, I’m back to the old WP standard Kubrick.
December 1969
Saturday, March 6th, 2010
I’ve got a few blogs going. One of them is having a problem with some of the older posts. I couldn’t remember which one was having problems, so I was browsing this blog and noticed I have a post from December 1969 in the archives.
It made me chuckle. I thought about trying to fix it, but I decided I like it.
As it turns out, it’s not this one that’s a problem, it’s another. I need to figure out how to upgrade a mySQL 4 wordpress installation to mySQL 5 on a remote shared server. I wonder if it’s even possible? I’ll probably have to export all the tables from the version 4 then import them into version 5. Will that even work given the structure of a Wordpress blog?
Ads are back
Saturday, March 6th, 2010I used this Wordpress theme some time ago and can’t really remember why I stopped. I’d like to learn a little more about customizing themes or even developing them from scratch. Right now I struggle with it. I’ll probably mess with this one a bit and see what happens.
Do you mind seeing ads on this blog? It looks like their mostly local ads (at least right now).
Let me know what you think.

My favorite quote so far this week…
Thursday, March 4th, 2010“Of course, a true Cisco stud would just do it all from the command line.”
I got to be a hero today….
Thursday, March 4th, 2010Well, not a REAL hero. I went to a long time client who had 3 annoying problems that have caused him endless frustration for weeks. Within 30 minutes all problems were history. I charged a fair price and went on my way. From my point of view, I didn’t even have to be awake to solve those problems… from his point of view it was just shy of a magic.
I like it when it works out like that - What a great way to start the day! If every service call could go so smoothly and have such an affect on the client, I’d never again complain about working so many hours.
Celebrate the small victories. Happy Thursday, everyone!
Why do people get so upset over XXX?
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010The previous post was deleted because of complaints by XXXX XXXXX. To the best of my knowledge the previous post was a factual accounting of what I saw. I’m sorry if my observations hurt anyone’s feelings. The intent was not malicious.
